Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau

Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau are world-renowned artists/researchers as they were pioneers in the field of interactive art. Christa Sommerer studied at the University of Vienna, then studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna. Laurent Mignonneau graduated from the school of Fine Arts of Angoulême in video art. Their collaboration led them to create many interactive artworks, thanks to which they got several prizes.
Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau met in 1992 at the insitute of new media of Frankfurt, directed by Peter Weibel, where they developed their first work entitled "Interactive Plant Growing". After being in residence at the NCSA (National Center for Supercomputing Application) between 1993 and 1994 at the University of Illinois, they were researchers at the ATR (Advanced Telecommunication Research Lab) during 7 years then professors in Kyoto during 3 years at the IAMAS (International Academie for Media Art and Science) in Gifu, Japan. They both hold a PhD, respectively from the CAiiA-STAR - University of Wales College of Art in Newport, England, and from the University of Kobe in Japan.
Sommerer and Mignonneau are currently professors and they direct the department "Interface Cultures" at the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria.
