Cultural Studies & The Marxist Critique
Thursday, June 30 & Friday, July 1, 2016
1, rue Beaubourg
Metro: Rambuteau (line 11) or les Halles (line 4)
This international conference wishes to discuss the points of connection as well as the points of friction in the relationship between Marxism and Cultural Studies, from the 1960s onward. The interdisciplinary field of Cultural Studies has notoriously engaged with audience practices and examined processes of identity construction through borrowing concepts from feminist and antiracist theories.
By tracing the history of the complex and sometimes difficult relationship between Cultural Studies and Marxism, the conference aims at raising the question of the conditions of renewal of a critical stance on the interrelations between culture, politics and society.
Free admission subjected to availability.
