Frankfurt-Birmingham: fragments of a dialogue between two critical schools
Project leader: Maxime Cervulle
This research-creation project aims at taking a fresh look at the relationship between the Frankfurt and the Birmingham schools, by exploring their archives collections. Far from supporting the theoretical quarrel which occured between Critical theory and Cultural Studies over several decades, we will attempt to see how contributions of authors from these 2 schools were peppered by appropriations since 1964.
We want to think of possible comparisons, especially by asking several questions: questionning the relation between ideology and artistic representation on one hand, questionning what influences the social role of art. We will think and reconstitute fractions of a dialogue between the two schools in a short film, cinema being the best art to express non-linearity.
