’This is the End’ : Music for End Titles and the Patriotic Rituals of the American War Film
Monday, November 21
Université Paris 8
2, rue de la Liberté
Metro : Saint-Denis Université (line 13)
This conference will rely on several Hollywood war films between Apocalypse Now (1979) and American Sniper (2014) to analyze the way film shapes, including closing credits, musical score and American identity (patriotism and the veteran or soldier figure).
These films give form to a very specific Hollywood product, intended for a national more than international audience. They have constructed a ritual form of patriotism. This conference relates to the history of cinema, film music, the issue of nationalism and American militarism, and US studies.
