Theater performance at the museum : a transcultural mediation ?
These films are mainly based on images from the University Paris 8, the Théâtre de la Commune in Aubervilliers, the MNAAG-Musée national des arts asiatiques-Guimet and mostly thanks to the video service of the Arts Department of the University Paris 8. These films present 4 conferences organized in 2016 by the project "Theater performance at the museum : a transcultural mediation ?" led by Katia Légeret, Professor at the Theater Department, Bharata-Natyam artist and director of the EA 1573. They are based on conference-performances of artist-researchers, choreographies by invited artists and restitution of experimentation in museum spaces.
PART #1

This first interdisciplinary conference combined propedeutics from artists, researchers and intermediaries about how to implement such an approach, in situ testings with artistic experimentations and performances organized in the great exhibition room of Khmer artworks at the Musem of Asian Arts MNAAG-Guimet, with 40 performers from master and PhD studies. The audience, composed of invited researchers, was solicited for interdisciplinary communications (FSL Language Sciences, Anthropology, Sanskrit Studies, Art History, Cultural Mediation, Museum Studies, Theater Studies, Fine Arts Studies) and a debate after the performances in the museum space.

In December 2015, the first performances in museum spaces were brought to the stage of the Théâtre de la Commune in Aubervilliers as part of the project "Developing co-existence in contemporary performing arts", led by Eliane Beaufils : 30 students in Theater Master’s degree and PhD from the EA1573 presented their work by inviting on stage the symposium’s audience for an interactive reception. This experiment was reproduced (along with the film’s screening) during the conference of March, 22nd and then in June 2016 at the Choreographic Center of Angers for the second symposium of this project. A film directed by a student from the project.

PART #2

Our common reflection went over the same thematics than the conference of March 22nd but this time it was related to restitution and critical comparative analyses of several experimental forms led in museum spaces. : when plastic artworks, in their original culture, are inseparable from other artistic practices, sometimes related to rituals passed on with language and gestures. This second conference looked at propedeutics with a critical and interdisciplinary point of view based on knowledge produced by transcultural research-creation in Theatre Studies, Art History, Language Sciences particularly Sign Language Linguistics, Anthropology, Aesthetics, Museology and Cultural Mediation.

PART #3
Conference of May 21st, as part of the Nuit européenne des musées : "Emotion ar work. Artistic mediation between the public and the India/Cambodia/China/Japan collections of the MNAAG-Guimet."
A new step in artistic experimentation processes in museum spaces. Such sensitive approaches of artworks were questioned, both in a scientific and interdisciplinary way, especially when they involve creative encounters between the spectator and actors-dancers, often musicians and poets. These encounters occurred during May and June, in the shape of two conferences-performances sessions, experimentation workshop, round tables and debates. They took place at the MNAAG-Musée National des Arts Asiatiques-Guimet on May 21st, 2016 during the Nuit européenne des musées. Emotion was the theme, shared in performing arts by spectators, actors-dancers, poets and musicians in front of a sculpture.
