Russian cinema since 1991: ruptures and heritages

Project leader:
Eugénie Zvonkine

In collaboration with:
University of Aberystwyth

This project studies contemporary russian cinema since 1991. We aim at questioning new economic, technical and strategic issues as well as new esthetic modes of this post-sovietic cinema.

This research project will be divided in two periods during the year: a one-day conference, then an international symposium. The project also aims at bringing to light complex relations between this cinema and its sovietic heritage that we can observe in narrative or formal choices in some movies, as well as in the ways of thinking of some critical texts.

Through the personal path of film directors, but also through central or regional production studio experiences, we will question this period in ths diversity and constant mutations.
