From works initiated by partner institutions and their collections, this project aim to assess what Daniel Fabre calls "the Other of art" and what will be defined here as alternative arts: dolls, wax artworks, circus, children’s drawings, outsider art, video games, etc. Those alternative forms of creation, lastly mentioned when listing "noble arts" (painting, sculpture, music, dance, theater, cinema and other), forgotten or abandoned by the sphere of Art, is currently going through a strong redefinition process which issues need to be questioned.

We will try to question historical blockages that explain how certain objects are still not considered as part of the art sphere. The idea will also be to observe and analyze ongoing artification processes, create a chronology of heritage conservation, highlight collectors and mediators’ role and question what is considered as "artwork".

The results of this research will be included in a web platform with various contents such as scientific content, database, archives and current events. Seminars, symposiums and one-day conferences will be regularly organized in order to present the project’s first results. In 2014, Ana Magalhães will be invited as part of an international chair and will take part in the project’s actions and events.
